In
a cover story for gay glossy The Advocate, singer Lady
Gaga says her love for her gay fans is pure.
“My love for my gay fans is just
pure, authentic love for them as supporters of me from the beginning,
and me feeling connected to their struggles as someone who is a part
of their fight,” Lady Gaga says in the magazine's August issue.
The 25-year-old singer also addresses
suggestions that she is somehow exploiting the LGBT community.
“To say that I would use the gay
community to sell records is probably one of the most ridiculous
statements anyone can make about me as a person,” she says. “I
would say the top thing I think about every single day of my life,
other than my fans, loving the music, and my family being healthy, is
social justice and equality.”
Lady Gaga called on her millions of
fans to lobby for repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell,” the law that
bans gay and bisexual troops from serving openly, and to push for
lawmakers in New York to approve a gay marriage law.
She reiterates in the interview that
she's part of the gay community.
“Yes,” she says, then adds, “The
b letter.”
